Second World War, Alfred James Barr (Coventry), A medal group comprising of The Defence Medal, The War Medal 1939-1945, The 1939-1945 Star, The Italy Star and The Africa Star with 8th Army clasp to ribbon. Also including the Soldiers Service and Pay Book for Alfred James Barr 318543 Gnr, with further documents to include War Office Official Paid receipt, letter from Royal Artillery Records confirming medal claim, Passes for Rome (12.12.45, 19.12.45 & 31.3.46), Ministry of Labour Receipt of Unemployment book receipt, Calling out Notice (25.8.39) and Army Form A.2039 response letter regarding a missing driving licence. Also with two extremely interesting photo albums corresponding to Barr’s time in Africa, including original photographs and photographic postcards depicting Egypt, Cairo, Port Said, Port Suez, Tripoli etc. With images of Monuments, Tourist Spots, German Tanks, Fellow Troops, Troops in front of Nazi planes, Local people, selection of photographs of a time posted in a Monastery with images of nuns and interior shots, on horseback, a football match, troops with beers & portraits etc. A superb insight into the human-side of conflict, with many images of young men enjoying themselves.
