A late Victorian butterfly brooch which can also be worn as a pendant. The butterfly has 3 split pearls set as the abdomen with a sapphire head and ruby eyes. The wings are comprised of rose cut diamonds, and mixed cut rubies and sapphires. Brooch in good condition, gemstones are generally lively and bright with typical inclusions- one sapphire next to the head is quite pale. The width across the wingspan is 33mm approx. It's length from top of the antennae to the tail is 27mm. Metal unmarked but tests as 9ct gold.
