Battle of Acre (1840) – 1840 hand-drawn battle plan for the positions of the allied squadrons of Great Britain, Austria and Turkey at St Jean D’Acre. Map reads:
‘A Plan of the positions of the Allied Squadrons of Great Britain, Austria, and Turkey, commanded by Admiral the Honourable Sir Robert Stopford, G. C. B. G. C. U. G. Rear Admiral of Great Britain during the bombardment of the Town, and fortifications of St Jean D’Acre; on the third day of November.. 1840’
The map also features the ‘ Names of the Ships belonging to the Allied Squadrons, employed at the Bombardment and Capture of St. Jean D’Acre. ‘ With British, Austrian and Turkish ships listed. These are all numbered and represented in the plan itself.
The map of St Jean D’Acre is annotated with a key of references, this includes areas of damage and places of note. Scale to lower right of the plan. Signed to lower right (potentially by Stopford) and dated April 19. 1842. Framed and glazed. Fascinating lot with historical merit and significance. 44cm x 67cm. Frame measures 63.5cm x 86cm.
