CRUIKSHANK, GEORGE. ' Comic Alphabet ' by George Cruikshank (1836). Likely first edition (reissued coloured in 1837) of George Cruikshank's 1836 Comic Alphabet. Produced to aid children in learning the alphabet and printed on a single pull-out accordion-style folded page, with each letter illustrated in Cruikshank's recognisable style, often focusing on problems in British society: for example, E for Equality shows a typical upper crust dandy strolling arm-in-arm with a soot covered chimney sweep.
