A medieval posy ring dated 13th to 15th Century. The outer of the D shaped band decorated with diagonal parallel lines creating six segments across the band. Within the segments is a black-letter gothic script, next to a small leaf (except on one segment by the M). The letters are A M A V Y E. This most likely reads A MA VYE (For My Life). This inscription is recorded on p5 of Joan Evan's 1931 book English Posies and Posy Rings.
The interior of the band is plain. External diameter is 18.8mm, band is 3.4mm wide. Weight 2.3g. Size J (very approximate).
Provenance - a metal detecting find made in January 2023 in Staffordshire. It has been recorded on the Portable Antiquities Scheme database, ref: WMID-DDEE96, and disclaimed as Treasure, ref: 2023-T529.
